We didn’t make up our foundational belief about a murdered Galilean rising from the dead. We didn’t make up the stuff about His promise to return on a white horse, riding on a cloud. We also didn’t make up the stuff about how we should live.

Du Jour

The danger of Method-Du-Jour thinking

Some church does something. It appears to be successful based on attendance numbers. Others then seek to find the method or program that was used to generate the good result. We shorten the sermon, use video feeds, turn up the music, redesign the décor, or hire consultants to try to produce similar results.

Persecution

The blessing of persecution

Scripture is clear that sometimes the righteous will suffer persecution. In this Beatitude Jesus assures us that when this happens we are blessed.

Truth is Narrow

Truth is an arrow and the gate is narrow

Those who approve of homosexual union think us narrow to reject their claims. Yet Jesus and Bob Dylan tell us that the truth is narrow. We can choose to acquiesce to the culture or stand with Jesus. I know who wins in the end and I choose to stand with him.

Summum Bonum

The Church and Summum bonum

When a visitor comes to your church, what would they perceive is the summum bonum of your group? Does the visitor feel loved? Does the visitor see the work of God in the lives of the congregants?
