About This Blog

I am a follower of Jesus Christ who has grown up in the Church. I often say that I am a believer in spite of the church, not because of it. Yet, God has used my experience in various churches to spur me on to explore Scripture for understanding of how to be “in the world but not of the world.”

I am a husband, father of 3 girls, a chemical salesman, and part-time home maintenance man. I have had the privilege of having some formal Bible Training at Talbot School of Theology and LeTourneau College (now University).

I am under no delusions that this blog is profound or original. If anything, I offer these posts as food for thought and would appreciate any feed back you might have. I want to engage the world around me and this blog is a small effort to do so. I welcome your comments, positive or negative.

A word of thanks to Nate Davis of Davis Services Group (DSG) for his help in getting this blog up and running. Please click on the link and check out what DSG has to offer. I want to also thank Dan Simrak for his help with formatting and style of the blog. If you are thinking about doing a self-hosted blog, I highly recommend DSG for hosting and development.

If you have any general comments or suggestions about how to improve this blog, please feel free to use the Contact Me page or leave a comment below. I would really appreciate hearing from you.

Soli Deo Gloria,

Mark

Time To Listen

Racism, Christians and the NFL – For what it’s worth . . .

Rather than fueling the divide between people, Christians should be at the forefront of those who are trying to bring peace and reconciliation. Listening before sharing opinions, would be a good start toward bringing this about.

Along the right paths

One of the advantages of reading a different version of the Bible, one that you are not familiar with, is that a different reading can trigger an insight that you never saw before. This happened to me this morning as I read Psalm 23 in the Christian Standard Bible. In that translation the verse 3 […]

Fork in the Road Sign

The People Began to Scatter

I see in humans (principally in myself), an amazing ability to find good reasons to do the wrong thing. We (perhaps I am alone in this, but I think not) can muster arguments to do what we want even if it is not what we know is right.

A. W. Tozer

Tozer: the truth about exposition –

I received an email containing the quote from A. W. Tozer and thought it worth sharing: Sound Bible exposition is an imperative must in the Church of the Living God. Without it no church can be a New Testament church in any strict meaning of that term. But exposition may be carried on in such […]
