Henry Cloud on Failure

Posted on November 10, 2021 Written by Mark McIntyre Leave a Comment

In reading his book Changes that Heal, I ran across this statement by Henry Cloud:

“Our failures do not surprise [God]. If they surprise us, it is only because we have too high an opinion of ourselves.”

What else can I say?

Action

Assent versus Action

For now, I will continue to have a gap between my assent and my action, but it will not always be so.

In what does Christ’s exaltation consist?

Peacemakers

Toward being a peacemaker

John Lennon called us to give peace a chance. Jesus calls us to be peacemakers. How do we accomplish this? What does a peacemaker look like?

Hymnal

Actual vs Aspirational

So while what we are singing may not describe what is actually true of us in the moment, it can be an accurate description of our desire. Our voice can express what is aspirational even though it may not be wholly or even partially true in the moment.

Speculation

Speculation in the Evangelical community

Paul warned Timothy about those who engage in speculation. Has the evangelical community been in violation of this warning?
