Oswald Chambers on the Gospel

What is needed to-day is not a new gospel, but live men and women who can re-state the Gospel of the Son of God in terms that will reach the very heart of our problems. To-day men are flinging the truth overboard as well as the terms. Why should we not become workmen who need not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth to our own people? The majority of orthodox ministers are hopelessly useless, and the unorthodox seem to be the only ones who are used. We need men and women saturated with the truth of God who can re-state the old truth in terms that appeal to our day.

Philip Yancey

Philip Yancey on the problem of pain

A quote taken from Where is God When it Hurts? by Philip Yancey speaks to those who are “smoldering with rage” at God for allowing pain and suffering in the world.

How can we coexist?

This is the 20th post in the Sermon on the Mount Series. “Give peace a chance” “Coexist” You’ve probably seen bumper stickers with similar sentiments. The problem is that evil is a reality that must be dealt with. Some men (or women) will seek to dominate others through force or intimidation. Even a casual investigation into the […]

Dorothy Sayers

Dorothy Sayers on the Incarnation

I’m re-reading Dorothy Sayers’ book Creed or Chaos? and have to share another quote with you: “It is not true at all that dogma is ‘hopelessly irrelevant’ to the life and thought of the average man. What is true is that ministers of the Christian religion often assert that it is, present it for consideration […]

Whack-a-mole

Truth Whack a Mole

In reading the “new” atheists, I see confirmation of the Apostle Paul’s assertion that their unbelief is not due to the lack of evidence but the suppression of it. There is a large difference between those who are truly seeking answers to difficult questions and those who are unwilling to believe no matter what the […]

Unbelievable

The idol of approval

This morning I was challenged by a paragraph that I read in The Unbelievable Gospel by Jonathan K. Dodson. “In Christ, we possess a power that can rip the muzzle off, chase away the shadows, and bolster winsome, authentic gospel witness. That power lifted Jesus out of the grave, but it sits latent in our […]
