It is important to think about what we say to a world that needs Jesus. Some of our cliches are not helpful. In this post I consider one and explain why I think this cliche should be avoided.

Hammer and Anvil

Between the hammer and the anvil

The iron goes into the fire to be heated and then is moved to the anvil to be hammered into the desire form. The process is repeated until the smith is satisfied with the result.

So far and no farther

It is as if God is saying to Babylon, “I will let you go so far and no farther.” Isaiah tells Babylon that they may think that they have the power to do whatever they please, but they do not.
