Responding to doctrinal weeds (some thoughts on discernment)

I recently was asked about how to respond to a spouse who is enthralled by some false teachers. The points I gave for consideration are these: The Bereans were praised (Acts 17:11) for checking to see if what Paul was teaching is true to Scripture, so it is clearly not wrong to determine if a […]

Advice from Hollywood

Love God Love People

An encouragement to love

The church is to up the ante by going beyond love for the members and loving those who are enemies (Matthew 5:43-44). We are to be identified by our love for those both inside and outside the membership ranks.

Truth is Narrow

Truth is an arrow and the gate is narrow

Those who approve of homosexual union think us narrow to reject their claims. Yet Jesus and Bob Dylan tell us that the truth is narrow. We can choose to acquiesce to the culture or stand with Jesus. I know who wins in the end and I choose to stand with him.

Blocks spelling the word Church

If you are discouraged about church . . .

If you are discouraged about church, it may be that your expectations are too high.

Church is not a gathering of the mature. Church is not a gathering of the wise. Church is not a gathering of the beautiful.

Church is a gathering of those who have been redeemed by Jesus Christ.

Focus on Jesus

Eyes fixed on Jesus

But, by keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, we can look past the problems in the church and look forward to the day when Jesus will return to set everything right. We can walk in the confidence that Jesus will eventually fix the things we know to be wrong.

Give God no rest

Give God no rest

God is telling us that he wants us to bring our concerns to him. He wants us to pray for, long for, a day of ultimate peace. He wants us to beg for the ultimate establishment of his kingdom.
