I’m learning to be increasingly comfortable with the embarrassing bits of Scripture because they teach me a lesson that I struggle to hear, that of grace.

The problem with power

The problem with power is that those who seek it are often the ones least qualified to wield it. This is no less true in the church than in society at large.

400 is Really Old

The KJV, which turns 400 this year, has been used by God to transform millions of lives. This is a noteworthy accomplishment and should be celebrated.

On money lenders and impure motives

This morning I read the story in Mark 11 of Jesus cleansing the Temple. He was angry with those who were using worship at the Temple for their own gain. Since most of us haven’t been guilty of selling birds or running a currency exchange in the back of the church, we are afforded the opportunity to smugly look down on those rascals that Jesus tossed out.

I always let the Lord Guide me

The problematic words in these translations are “always” and “continually.” I find that I have lapses when I allow my pride to take over and I think (and too often say) stupid stuff.
