Sunset on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon Sunset

In reflecting upon this scene, I thought of the hundreds of thousands of sunsets over this canyon that have been at least as glorious as this one. We serve a God who cares enough to paint in such vivid colors, even when there is no-one there to appreciate them.

Who builds the church?

When I am tempted to be overwhelmed by the problems in the church, I need to remind myself that it is not up to men to build the church. Jesus told us that he, himself, is the one who builds his church (Matthew 16:18).

Disqus Update – Why I’m Back

I have been amazingly indecisive about which comment system I use on this blog. I have tried the native Wordpress system, Disqus, Intense Debate, Livefyre and one or two others. Currently, I am back with Disqus.

Leading with repentance

Perhaps by avoiding the call to repentance, we are like the compassionate doctor who fails to tell his patient the truth about his condition out of fear of hurting his feelings.

On misplaced priorities

There is a part of me that feels that I should be able to stay out of the trap of misplaced priorities. After all, I’ve been a believer for a long time now. But alas, I frequently do indeed get this wrong.

Why do you call me good?

The man just teed it up for Jesus to give him a list of what he needs to do. It was a perfect opportunity to tell the man all he needed to know about eternal life and how to get it. The man left the door wide open for Jesus to give him the list.
