In looking at commentaries on 1 Peter, I read this:
“Every real Christian feels that he is surrounded by dangers, and that he is in himself full of weakness; there cannot therefore be a greater comfort than to feel that we are kept by a power not our own: that we are guarded by the same Saviour who loved us, so as to die for us: and by Him who of His great mercy has adopted us into His own family. And not only does all our comfort depend upon our thus placing confidence in God, but our safety also; for we are saved through faith. Not that we owe our salvation to our faith. No, we owe it to the power of God. Nevertheless, that power is made available to us by the exercise of faith; just as in the case of a drowning sailor who is saved by clinging to a rope; the rope saves him, and yet if he did not cling to it, he would perish.”– Gracilla Boddington
We are kept by a power not our own! Praise God that we don’t have to figure everything out. All we have to do is cling to Jesus.
