N. T. Wright on Death and Tyrants

Posted on September 10, 2013 Written by Mark McIntyre 2 Comments

On death and tyrants“Death is the last weapon of the tyrant, and the point of the resurrection, despite much misunderstanding, is that death has been defeated. Resurrection is not he redescription of death, it is its overthrow, and, with that, the overthrow of those whose power depends on it. Despite the sneers and slurs of some contemporary scholars, it was those who believed in the bodily resurrection who who were burned at the stake and thrown to the lions.”

Dangerous Calling

Paul Tripp on the purpose of the Word of God

The ultimate purpose of the Word of God is not theological information but heart and life transformation. Biblical literacy and theological expertise are not, therefore, the end of the Word but a God-ordained means to and end, and the end is a radically transformed life because the worship at the center of that life has been reclaimed.

Disqus Update – Why I’m Back

I have been amazingly indecisive about which comment system I use on this blog. I have tried the native Wordpress system, Disqus, Intense Debate, Livefyre and one or two others. Currently, I am back with Disqus.

Du Jour

The danger of Method-Du-Jour thinking

Some church does something. It appears to be successful based on attendance numbers. Others then seek to find the method or program that was used to generate the good result. We shorten the sermon, use video feeds, turn up the music, redesign the décor, or hire consultants to try to produce similar results.

Sister Marianne Cope

On the need for the intercession of saints

An article in the Huffington Post regarding the elevation of Marianne Cope prompted an examination of the need to pray to saints. What are we saying about the character of God when we teach that it is necessary to ask the saints to intercede on our behalf?

Love God Love People

An encouragement to love

The church is to up the ante by going beyond love for the members and loving those who are enemies (Matthew 5:43-44). We are to be identified by our love for those both inside and outside the membership ranks.
