On the ropes . . . intentionally

Ropes Challenge

Our family went to the Poconos to take on the challenge of a ropes course. I didn’t know what I was in for but it was fun. Is the ropes challenge a fitting metaphor for life?

You are the salt – Part 2

These verses should inform our idea of what it means to be salt in the world. Do we work for economic justice? Do we work for social justice? Do we work to bring physical and spiritual healing to those we encounter? Do we proclaim the good news of Jesus?

Amusing ourselves to death

In his book, Amusing ourselves to death, Neil Postman argues that our entertainment culture has undermined our ability to reason and gain understanding. While there is nothing inherently wrong with entertainment or diversion in moderation, in excess, as Postman argues, it can become an unhealthy addiction.

Action

Assent versus Action

For now, I will continue to have a gap between my assent and my action, but it will not always be so.

One day, Jesus will return or I will go to meet him and all will be put to right. The gap will be eliminated. Assent and action will be simultaneous.

What a relief that will be.

Ring of Truth

It has the ring of truth . . .

One of the things I enjoy about reading the Bible is how real the characters are. With the exception of Daniel and Jesus, we read stories of men and women who were seriously flawed but were used by God to bring about his will for humanity.

One Another

One Another

If we did a better job of “one anothering” those outside the church, perhaps those on the outside would see less of our failures and more of Jesus.
