On the ropes . . . intentionally

Ropes Challenge

Our family went to the Poconos to take on the challenge of a ropes course. I didn’t know what I was in for but it was fun. Is the ropes challenge a fitting metaphor for life?

Grounded

Leaders – How well are you getting people grounded in the faith?

Leaders need to periodically gauge how well they are doing with regard to equipping their people. If you find that improvement can be made, try something new. Use one of the ideas above or listen to the ideas of your people. There is no one-size-fits-all solution.

Going after false idols

Too often the church seeks acceptance by becoming like the surrounding culture and ends up making inappropriate compromises. When we do this, we are trading what is of value for that which holds no value. It is like trading a bar of gold for a used Happy Meal toy.

Perfected by social justice?

It would be great if there was a world where injustice never happened. That world will not come about by the church or any other group taking up a political cause or trying to start a social movement.

Digging Deeper

Spelling vs. Writing – A lesson for church leaders

Can we admit the fact that we like being the one who knows the answer? Can we admit that sometimes we respond with our primary motivation to be admired for our knowledge? After we repent of our pride, we can then seek to be used by God to assist others in drawing into deeper relationship with Jesus.

Grace and Truth

Grace, Truth and Difficult People

We all have had to deal with difficult people at one time or another. In the midst of the difficulty we are called to love the difficult person. We need to interact with that person with both grace and truth. Jesus is our example on how to maintain this balance.
