On beauty and worship

While I enjoyed touring the churches, my visits were a mixed bag for me. For example, one of the more disconcerting things that I encountered was a commemortive to Charles Darwin in Westminster Abbey. I hope that I will not offend anyone when I say this, but for me Westminster Abbey was more museum than house of worship. I was awed by the rich history of England as I toured, but little about what I saw around me pointed me to worship of God

Rejoice

Rejoice is a command

The Apostle Paul was confident that he was in Prison for a purpose and in prison he practiced what he preached. He rejoiced in the difficult circumstances and demonstrates that I have no excuse for not doing the same.

On the value of good preaching

We should expect our preacher to communicate to himself and to us the diagnosis that God makes upon our condition and the corrective action that God prescribes. We don’t need or want the preacher to interfere with this process by filtering out the inconvenient or disturbing bits.
