Moving beyond the gospel?

Beyond the Gospel

In some churches I have attended, there is a sense that the gospel entails the elementary teaching of Christianity. To move toward maturity then requires that people move beyond the gospel into more “meaty” doctrinal teaching.

I have come to realize that this is wrong headed and leads not to maturity, but to immaturity. The effect of this teaching is the exact opposite of the desired result.

Pursue the reality beyond

Some links to consider – 8/13/2014

Most of the stuff I read on the internet I get through RSS subscriptions and I scan through that list using Feedly. I’m rethinking that strategy and will occasionally post a list of articles that speak to the issues that the church is facing, theological discussion or other topics that could be helpful to the readers of Attempts at Honesty. This is the first such post.

Sister Marianne Cope

On the need for the intercession of saints

An article in the Huffington Post regarding the elevation of Marianne Cope prompted an examination of the need to pray to saints. What are we saying about the character of God when we teach that it is necessary to ask the saints to intercede on our behalf?
