Schaff on the Apostles’ Creed

I believe

Having grown up in anti-liturgical Baptist churches, I was not exposed to The Apostles’ Creed until I was an adult. It is a shame since, as Schaff points out, it is an excellent summary of the facts on which the Christian faith is based.

Melon

On going back to Egypt

The point is that it is easy to look back on different situations and remember them as better than they really were. It is also easy to lose sight of the fact that God remains in control and promises to use every circumstance in which we find ourselves for his glory and our benefit (Rom. 8:28). It is easy to let our circumstances drive us to complaining rather than worship.

Forgetting the past

The blessing of forgetting

Perhaps forgetting is choosing to no longer let those things determine our path forward. The choice is to not let those things define us but allow God to give us a fresh start.

Anger

Slow to anger

Too often we misrepresent God by being quick to anger rather than slow. Many examples of harsh comments on blog posts and angry rants by those who claim to be Christian can be found on the internet.

Red Cross

A victim of friendly fire

It has been said that the church is the only army that shoots its wounded. Sometimes the wounds are caused by friendly fire. It is the responsibility of church leaders to identify and correct this when it happens.

Time To Listen

Racism, Christians and the NFL – For what it’s worth . . .

Rather than fueling the divide between people, Christians should be at the forefront of those who are trying to bring peace and reconciliation. Listening before sharing opinions, would be a good start toward bringing this about.
