400 is Really Old

The KJV, which turns 400 this year, has been used by God to transform millions of lives. This is a noteworthy accomplishment and should be celebrated.

Of infinite value

If we fail to properly value the individual people in our charge we are failing in our mission thus demonstrating a gap between how God views those people and how we do.

On eloquence (or lack thereof) in prayer

I must confess that I am sometimes intimidated about praying in a church gathering such as a prayer meeting or small group. My brain is not wired to call up Old Testament images about restoring what the locusts have eaten or calling down mighty angels. These references make those adept at praying sound so . . . so . . . spiritual and powerful.

Along the right paths

I am learning to trust that God can use my choices, even the faulty ones, to bring me to the place he wants me to be. Like a GPS that recalculated the route when I miss a turn, God can bring about his plan without my full understanding or cooperation.

Christian on Christian crime

So rather than revel in (and gossip about) the failures of others, it seems that we should be honest about our own. We then might have an opportunity to point to Jesus as the one who accepts us as we are.

On the pursuit of relevance

So while I think there is nothing inherently wrong with wailing guitar solos and smoke machines as part of the worship experience, perhaps we should pump the brakes on the drive to make worship like a rock concert and the sermon like a motivational seminar.
