We didn’t make up our foundational belief about a murdered Galilean rising from the dead. We didn’t make up the stuff about His promise to return on a white horse, riding on a cloud. We also didn’t make up the stuff about how we should live.

Humble and Contrite?

I don’t think that we can place too much stress on Jesus’ statement about the responsibility for building the church. It is his; he claimed the responsibility and the resurrection proved that he has the power to do it. Maybe we should spending more time in prayer asking him how he wants us to participate in that building than we do in building our own strategies.

The blessing of being poor (in spirit) – Matthew 5:3

Matthew 5:3 reads: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (NASB) One must assume that Jesus knew what he was doing when he put this Beatitude first in the list.
