Psalm 43:3 (ESV) 3 Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling! As I read this verse this morning, I was reminded of Jesus’ claim to be the light of the world found in John 8:12, 9:5 and 12:46. Since […]

What I Learn from the Missional Movement

Posted on April 17, 2010 Written by Mark McIntyre 2 Comments

I recently overheard half of a phone conversation regarding the “missional” movement and the “Emergent Church” which prompted some thoughts. My thoughts gravitated to the two great commands. The first is to love God with my entire being. The second is to love my neighbor as myself. We, as humans, seem to prefer extremes – […]

God knows what He’s about . . .

Events of recent days reminded me of this anonymous poem. I originally heard Ravi Zacharias read it in a sermon and called RZIM to get the text. When God wants to drill a man, and thrill a man, and skill a man; When God wants to mold a man to play the noblest part; When […]

Don’t look to Egypt for help

Isaiah 31:1 Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who rely on horses, who trust in the multitude of their chariots and in the great strength of their horsemen, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel, or seek help from the LORD. Over the years that I have been […]

Dead end sign

Even in our bad choices

But what about the choices we make for ourselves? Does it not stand to reason that God also knows about them and has considered them in his plan? Of course it does.

Finger Pointing

Can we stop pointing fingers?

God wants our hearts to reflect his heart. What would our world look like if they did? We would probably do less finger pointing and more work to bring healing and reconciliation.

Lead (and follow) like Jesus

The bottom line is that we all (leaders and followers) need to look first to Jesus and be guided by him. If we are guided into a particular church by Jesus, we can then serve Jesus in that church no matter what may happen with the leadership.

Keller on Prayer

Keller on prayer and Scripture

In his book on prayer, Tim Keller writes this about the importance of having Scripture as the foundation of our prayer life: “Without immersion in God’s words, our prayers may not be merely limited and shallow but also untethered from reality. We may be responding not to the real God but to what we wish […]

What the church should be about

We are not called to ratchet up the rhetoric in the culture war. We need to see how Jesus used respectful dialog to point people in a different direction.
