My reluctant New Year’s Resolutions

Posted on January 7, 2013 Written by Mark McIntyre 2 Comments

My experience is that resolutions are likely to be broken or forgotten before the end of January. Yet I am going on record with 5 of them. Read mine and share a few of your own.

Who is the Redeemer of God’s Elect?

In the last few months, I have been reading about the first Ecumenical Councils of the church in the 4th and 5th Centuries. It was at these councils that the nature of Jesus was clearly defined for all of Christendom. Many of the misunderstandings about Jesus that survive today were addressed by these councils.

Intentional

Intentional about Grace

The Church of Jesus Christ should be the most gracious place on the planet but often it is not. If we are not consistently preaching the Gospel, if we are not reinforcing our need for a savior, if we are not intentional about living under grace, then we will become what the world thinks we are.

Putting first things first

God does not need my service to accomplish his will, nor does he need yours. In his grace, he allows us to participate with him in the accomplishment of his desires. But, we need to put first things first as we consider entering into service.

Question 2

The authority that God has given

Question 2 of the Westminster Shorter Catechism asks, “What authority from God directs us how to glorify and enjoy Him?”

Easter

Easter should blow our minds

But this is exactly what we celebrate at Easter. Jesus came back from being dead and caused a stir in Jerusalem one Sunday morning. This event should cause us to ask all sorts of questions if we are really connecting with what happened.
