Ed Stetzer – Legalism, “The Help,” and a “Woman’s Place”

I haven’t seen “The Help”, it really didn’t seem that interesting to me. But I like what Ed Stetzer says in this blog post and offer the link for your edification. Legalism is dangerous and inhibits spiritual growth. Ed Stetzer – Legalism, “The Help,” and a “Woman’s Place”.

Ed Stetzer, Jeremy Myers, Terry Jones and the Apostle Paul

On Empty Consolation

In this Christmas season, we celebrate Emmanuel, God with Us, who came to earth to make that comfort and joy possible. But we should also keep in mind that the baby in the manger came knowing that he would also be the God on a Cross as the means of producing that joy.

Action

Assent versus Action

For now, I will continue to have a gap between my assent and my action, but it will not always be so.

One day, Jesus will return or I will go to meet him and all will be put to right. The gap will be eliminated. Assent and action will be simultaneous.

What a relief that will be.

Forgetting the past

The blessing of forgetting

Perhaps forgetting is choosing to no longer let those things determine our path forward. The choice is to not let those things define us but allow God to give us a fresh start.

Checklist

A checklist for the church

In looking at all of these questions, I realize that there is a gap between my behavior and my belief. I believe in God’s love, I know that I am forgiven, I know that God is in control and I know that I have received and am to give grace. Yet, I do not always live according to that knowledge.

Love and Fear

The truth is that I am not strong enough. And it is not my ability to love that will cast out fear. It is a right understanding of who God is and how much he loves me that will take away my fear.
